Army’s Harmanjot Singh is set to be part of the 12-member Indian team competing in the 18th Asian Cross-Country Championships on February 21 in Fukuoka, Japan. The team, including athletes from various categories, will depart for Japan this Wednesday as confirmed by Bahadur Singh Sagoo, president of AFI (Athletics Federation of India).
Harmanjot Singh will participate in the men’s 10km race, while Aditya Gurjar, Abhinandan Suryavanshi, and Karan Ramesh Saranade will represent India in the men’s U20 category, with an 8km distance. The women’s 10km team comprises Nandani Gupta, Ujala, Soniya, and Munni Devi, while Versha, Mani Yadav, Sonam Kumari, and Aarju will compete in the women’s U20 group.
The selection of the national team was based on the performance of athletes at the 60th National Cross-Country Championships held recently in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Notably, athletes from Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) secured victories in the senior men and women team categories at the National Cross Country Championships.
The Indian team also participated in the 2026 World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, where Gulveer Singh stood out as the top Indian runner in the individual 10km event. Additionally, the Indian mixed relay team finished 12th overall in the 4x2km event.
