The Indian team comprising Astik Pradhan, Sandramol Sabu, Setu Mishra, and Shravani Sachin Sangle secured a gold medal in the mixed 4x400m relay during the inaugural Asian U23 Athletics Championships 2026 in Ordos, China. On the opening day, Indian athletes also excelled in various events, including men’s 5,000m, men’s discus throw, and women’s 3,000m steeplechase.
A standout moment for India was the victory in the mixed 4x400m relay, where the team clocked a winning time of 3:18.64 seconds, surpassing China and the Philippines who secured second and third place respectively with times of 3:18.74 and 3:25.28 seconds.
Indian runners Shivaji Parashuram and Vinod Singh showcased strong performances by clinching silver and bronze in the men’s 5,000m event. Parashuram finished with a time of 14:08.19 seconds, while Singh secured the bronze with a time of 14:23.57 seconds. The gold in the men’s 5,000m went to Japan’s Rui Suzuki with a time of 14:01.24.
In the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, Prachi Ankush Devkar claimed the third spot with a time of 10:32.69 seconds. China dominated the event with Yang Yiting clinching gold in 10:14.68 seconds, followed by Liu Yuxin who took silver in 10:25.51 seconds.
Bhartpreet Singh from India earned a bronze medal in the men’s discus throw with a throw of 52.91m. The event was won by China’s Li Zhixin with a throw of 60.79m, while Jiang Zehao, also from China, secured silver with a throw of 59.60m.
