The Indian men and women teams have secured a favorable draw in the group stages of the 2026 Thomas and Uber Cup badminton team championships in Horsens, Denmark, scheduled from April 24 to May 3. Both teams, seeded eighth, are placed in Group A alongside top seeds China. India, the 2022 Thomas Cup champions, are expected to perform well and vie for a spot in the quarterfinals against tough competitors like Canada and Australia.
While the men’s team has a strong track record, having won the 2022 Thomas Cup, the women’s team faces a challenging path in a group that includes Denmark and Ukraine. BAI secretary general Sanjay Mishra expressed optimism about the teams’ potential to advance further in the prestigious championships. The tournament format includes ties with five matches each, comprising three singles and two doubles matches, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the quarterfinals.
The Thomas Cup, in its 34th edition, and the Uber Cup, returning for its 31st edition, will feature 16 teams divided into four groups. India’s previous performance saw the men’s team losing to China and the women’s team falling to Japan in the quarterfinals of the 2024 edition. Indonesia holds the record for the most Thomas Cup titles, while China leads in Uber Cup victories with 16 titles.
