Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, has been named a Padma Shri awardee for 2026. This prestigious recognition adds her to a list of nine current and former sportspersons receiving Padma Awards this year, which includes five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri recipients.
Born on March 8, 1989, in Moga, Punjab, Harmanpreet’s cricket journey began in a challenging environment with limited opportunities for women. Despite facing obstacles, she excelled in India’s domestic circuit, gaining attention for her consistent performances.
