Fresh off victories against Argentina, Indian women’s hockey captain Salima Tete believes that maintaining consistency is key to success against Australia. The team is set to tour Australia from May 21 to June 3 as part of their preparations for the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup New Zealand 2025-26 in Auckland.
Tete highlighted the importance of sticking to their recent successful approach against elite teams like Australia. She emphasized the need to maintain discipline, follow the coach’s instructions, and focus on their game plan without making significant changes.
The captain expressed confidence in the team’s ability to handle the mental pressure of international competition. She praised the younger players for their experience gained during the Argentina tour, emphasizing the importance of playing their best hockey and handling pressure effectively.
Following their return from Argentina, the Indian women’s team has been intensively training in SAI Bengaluru to enhance key areas before their busy international schedule. Additionally, the team’s drag-flickers will receive specialized training under Dutch legend Taeke Taekema in Perth, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand.
Head coach Sjoerd Marijne views the Australia tour as a continuous selection trial for future competitions. He aims to provide the players with valuable international exposure and assess their capabilities against top-tier opponents, focusing on improvements and performance at the international level.
