Indian wrestlers excelled at the Under-20 Asian Wrestling Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, securing a total of 20 medals. The impressive haul included four gold, seven silver, and nine bronze medals across all three disciplines. The Indian team displayed consistency and talent, earning top-three rankings in both Women’s Wrestling and Men’s Freestyle categories.
In the Women’s Wrestling competition, India finished second overall with 184 points, narrowly behind champions China. The Men’s Freestyle team secured third place with 152 points. The Indian squad showcased exceptional depth and consistency, with a remarkable 90% podium conversion rate, outperforming traditional powerhouse Japan by a significant margin.
Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Kumar Singh praised the young athletes for their outstanding performance. He highlighted the depth of talent in India’s junior wrestling pipeline and emphasized the federation’s commitment to nurturing these athletes for success on the international stage. Leading the charge in the women’s division were Parveen (50kg), Muskan (53kg), and Kajal (76kg), who all clinched gold medals in their respective weight classes.
In the Men’s Freestyle competition, Sumit Kumar Laxman Bharaskar secured a gold medal in the 70kg category. Other Indian wrestlers also put up strong performances, with several athletes earning silver and bronze medals in their respective weight classes. The Indian contingent also had success in the Greco-Roman division, with Akshay Rana securing a silver medal in the 97kg category.
Prior to the Under-20 event, Indian wrestlers had a dominant showing at the Under-15 Asian Wrestling Championships, further solidifying their prowess on the international stage.
