India’s Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar have secured a spot in the final of the 3rd Asian Doubles Squash Championships. The top-seeded duo advanced after impressive performances, defeating opponents to set up a final clash against Pakistan’s Nasir Iqbal and Noor Zaman. Abhay and Velavan’s journey to the final included victories over Japan’s Naoki Hayashi and Ren Makino, as well as Malaysia’s Sanjay Jeeva and Duncan Lee.
Their successful run in the tournament saw them top their group with wins over South Korea’s Oh Seojin and MinWoo Lee, and Hong Kong’s Shing Fung Lam and Yat Long Chung. However, India faced disappointment in the women’s and mixed doubles events, with Joshna Chinappa and Rathika Seelan settling for bronze after losing to Malaysian top seeds Ainaa Amani and Yee Xin Ying in the semi-finals.
In the mixed doubles category, Joshna and Velavan Senthilkumar also secured a bronze medal after a closely contested semi-final against Malaysia’s Ainaa Amani and Md Kamal. Despite India’s other men’s doubles pairing of Rahul Baitha and Suraj Chand failing to progress, Abhay and Velavan remain on course for a successful title defense against the Pakistani duo in the final.
