India’s Ambassador to Slovakia emphasized the significance of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Slovakia, stating that it will enhance political relations, economic security, and people-to-people contacts. Ambassador Apoorva Srivastava described the visit as historic, being the first by an Indian Prime Minister since Slovakia’s independence in 1993. She highlighted the rapid growth in economic relations between India and Slovakia, with trade surpassing 1 billion Euros in 2024 and reaching 1.6 billion Euros in 2025.
Slovakia serves as a gateway to Europe for Indian companies, with its talent and technology holding great importance for India. The recent India-European Union Free Trade Agreement was mentioned as a significant development, offering vast opportunities across various sectors. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to engage with the CEOs of key companies in Slovakia during his visit, aiming to further strengthen bilateral ties.
The Ambassador pointed out that several Slovak companies have already invested in India, with five major business groups venturing into the Indian market in the past three years to bolster business relations. Slovakia’s Indo-Pacific strategy, launched in December 2025, underscores the country’s focus on the region, encompassing trade, technology, and political engagement. The Slovak President, Peter Pelligrini, anticipates that PM Modi’s visit will create new avenues for cooperation between Slovakia and India.
