India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will be leaving the team setup following the England tour, with the final ODI scheduled for July 19 at Lord’s cricket ground marking his last assignment. According to reports, ten Doeschate has expressed his wish to depart to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), but the final decision rests with head coach Gautam Gambhir, who played a pivotal role in bringing him on board.
The reason for ten Doeschate’s exit does not appear to be India’s recent poor performance in the England and Ireland T20Is. Instead, personal reasons seem to be the driving force behind his decision. With a focus on his family, particularly his three young sons and a working wife based in London, ten Doeschate seeks a role that allows him more time with his family by reducing extensive travel commitments associated with the Indian coaching job.
As an assistant coach, ten Doeschate’s role, primarily focused on fielding, may have overlapped with the responsibilities of the current fielding coach, T Dilip. Despite this, his strong personal and professional bond with Gambhir, who recommended him to the BCCI, has been noted. Ten Doeschate became part of the Indian coaching setup under Gambhir’s leadership two years ago, and his initial contract with the BCCI recently concluded around July 12-14.
While India faced fielding challenges in the England series, the fielding coach, T. Dilip, is expected to continue working with the team to enhance their catching skills.
