Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar highlighted the significance of precise voter lists, stating that any inclusion of non-citizens in electoral rolls goes against the Constitution. The Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls has commenced in 12 states to uphold the integrity of the democratic process, with plans for nationwide implementation soon.
Kumar stressed that the essence of democracy lies in a completely accurate voter list, essential for meaningful celebration of the general elections. During his visit to Deoghar and Dumka districts in Jharkhand, he engaged with Booth Level Officers on electoral procedures, voter roll purification, and ensuring transparent voting practices.
The Commissioner explained that the Special Intensive Revision process is straightforward, transparent, and allows citizens to raise claims and objections post the draft voter list preparation at the district level. Individuals unable to participate initially are granted an additional month for inspection and appeal, with future implementation planned for Jharkhand.
Addressing the BLO interaction at Shri Shri Mohananand Vidyalaya in Tapovan, Deoghar, Kumar lauded Booth Level Officers as unsung heroes of democracy, crucial to maintaining the democratic backbone. He reiterated the Election Commission’s dedication to ensuring all eligible Indian citizens are included in the electoral rolls, emphasizing transparency and fairness in the upcoming intensive revision program in Jharkhand.
