India has established a robust digital infrastructure for agriculture, encompassing over 7.63 crore farmer IDs and 23.5 crore crop plots as part of the Digital Agriculture Mission. The National Pest Surveillance System monitors 66 crops and 432 pest types, offering real-time guidance to more than 10,000 extension workers for early pest detection.
The Kisan e-Mitra chatbot, operational until December 2025, has addressed over 93 lakh queries, assisting 8,000 farmers daily in 11 regional languages. An AI-driven initiative for local monsoon onset predictions for Kharif 2025 impacted 3.88 crore farmers across 13 states through SMS, influencing 31–52% of farmers’ sowing decisions based on forecasts.
Innovative AI tools like YES-TECH, CROPIC, and the PMFBY WhatsApp Chatbot are enhancing crop insurance under PMFBY, making the process more efficient, transparent, and innovative for farmers. The Union Budget 2026-27 introduced Bharat-VISTAAR, a multilingual AI tool integrating AgriStack portals and the ICAR package with AI technology.
