India’s approach to emigration, supported by digital innovation, covers all aspects of overseas employment, including hiring, pre-departure arrangements, job security, and return, as highlighted by Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs. The eMigrate platform exemplifies how digital technologies are reshaping governance, not just enabling it, as stated during an event by India’s mission. This event, held alongside the Second International Migration Review Forum, focused on showcasing India’s eMigrate system.
Singh emphasized that India’s comprehensive strategy views migration as a continuum involving pre-departure preparation, safe transit, dignified employment, and eventual return and reintegration. The eMigrate initiative commences with vetting employers and recruiters, enhancing transparency in the hiring process by enabling potential employees to verify them and prevent fraud. Currently, the platform boasts approximately 298,000 registered foreign employers and 2,457 active recruiting agents, who can also recruit through the portal.
The eMigrate platform not only aids workers by integrating with skilling and employment platforms but also offers documentation, service delivery, multilingual interfaces, online grievance redressal, and payment transfers at no charge. India’s Permanent Representative, P. Harish, underscored the nation’s commitment to South-South cooperation by making digital tools like eMigrate freely available for adaptation by other countries.
