India witnessed a significant growth in electronics hardware exports in 2024-25, soaring by 32.47% to $38.58 billion, as per a report released by the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC). The surge was primarily fueled by telecom equipment, notably smartphones, with exports reaching $29.12 billion in 2023-24. Smartphone exports alone escalated to an estimated $24.14 billion in 2024-25 from $15.57 billion in the previous year, becoming the largest component of India’s electronics hardware export portfolio.
The United States retained its position as the primary destination, accounting for 44% of India’s smartphone exports, followed by the United Arab Emirates (11%), the Netherlands (9%), the United Kingdom (6%), and Italy (5%). North America emerged as the top destination region with exports valued at $14.70 billion, trailed by Europe at $11.45 billion. Initiatives like Bharat Tech are aiding Indian companies in expanding into emerging markets such as Africa, Latin America, CIS, ASEAN, and SAARC, while reinforcing their presence in established regions like North America and Europe, according to Veer Sagar, Chairman of ESC.
Gurmeet Singh, Executive Director at ESC, highlighted the remarkable momentum in hardware exports, attributing the growth to telecom equipment, particularly smartphones. Notably, exports to Russia and CIS nations tripled to $1.10 billion, with the Middle East accounting for $5.20 billion. Shipments to the Far East, Korea, and Japan surged by 48.56% to $1.75 billion. Among states, Tamil Nadu led with exports worth $15 billion in 2024-25, followed by Karnataka ($7.85 billion), Uttar Pradesh ($5.30 billion), Maharashtra ($3.60 billion), Gujarat ($2.80 billion), and Delhi ($1 billion). The report’s data indicates a broadening of India’s electronics manufacturing and export footprint beyond traditional hubs, with growth now diversified across various regions.
