India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, praised the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) on its 44th foundation day. Margherita highlighted the think-tank’s evidence-based policy research and its role in advancing the voice of developing nations globally.
During the Foundation Day address, Margherita emphasized India’s development journey’s connection to the progress of the wider world, especially the Global South countries. He acknowledged the pivotal role of RIS in providing policy inputs for informed decision-making and strengthening the stance of developing nations in international forums.
Various policymakers, diplomats, scholars, and former members of RIS gathered to commemorate the institution’s contributions to policy research and international development cooperation. Professor Ramesh Chand, a former NITI Aayog member, praised RIS for expanding its research agenda to address evolving global challenges effectively.
Aparna Ray, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, recognized RIS’s valuable contributions to international policy negotiations and its support for Global South countries. She highlighted RIS’s focus on inclusivity, equity, South-South cooperation, and sustainable development in global governance discussions.
Seshadri Chari, a member of RIS’s Governing Council, emphasized the think-tank’s growing relevance in addressing contemporary development challenges and contributing to strategic policy discussions. Professor Sachin Kumar Sharma, RIS Director General, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to high-quality policy research and supporting the developmental goals of the Global South.
