Former Foreign Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla emphasized India’s increasing significance internationally, noting that the country is now highly valued in global forums. Shringla stressed the importance of India’s presence in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and its bid for an Asia-Pacific non-permanent seat in 2028.
India’s presence in the UNSC, the only UN body with binding decisions, was underscored by Shringla as crucial due to the country’s global standing. He emphasized the need for India’s perspective to be articulated through the Council, advocating for a reformed Security Council. Shringla also praised India’s consistent efforts towards peace, de-escalation, and diplomacy on the international stage.
Acknowledging Prime Minister Modi’s proactive role in global diplomacy, Shringla highlighted India’s unique perspective that is sought after for its ability to contribute to peace and amity. He emphasized India’s distinct viewpoint based on its rich civilization and centuries of history. Shringla expressed confidence in garnering support for India’s representation in the UNSC, citing past strong global backing for the country’s contributions to global peace and security.
