India’s fast bowler Gurnoor Brar received an official warning and one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI against England at Edgbaston. The incident took place when Brar threw the ball towards the batter in an inappropriate and dangerous manner during the eighth over of the England innings on July 14.
Brar was found to have violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match. As a result of this breach, one demerit point was added to Brar’s disciplinary record, being his first offence within a 24-month period.
The disciplinary action was taken based on the charges brought by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, third umpire Sam Nogajski, and fourth umpire Russell Warren. Level 1 breaches can lead to an official reprimand, a fine of up to 50% of the player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
India secured a 1-0 lead in the three-match series against England with a six-wicket victory, during which Brar claimed two wickets for the team. The upcoming match between the two sides is scheduled to be the second ODI in Cardiff on Thursday.
