India’s Hansika Lamba clinched the silver medal in the women’s 55kg event at the Budapest Ranking Serie, losing to Ukraine’s Nataliia Klivchutska in the final. Despite a 5-0 defeat against Klivchutska, the 19-year-old had a remarkable journey, starting with a victory over Turkiye’s Tuba Demir in the quarter-finals and a comeback win against Anastasia Blayvas of Germany in the semifinal. Lamba’s impressive form this year includes bronze medals at the Asian Championships and the Ulaanbaatar Open.
In the women’s 50kg division, Priyanshi Prajapat settled for fourth place after losing to Jacqueline Mollocana of Ecuador in the bronze medal bout. Prajapat’s journey featured a win over Pan-American champion Katie Gomez but ended with a loss to Chinese Feng Ziqi in the quarterfinal. Despite a chance through repechage, she fell short of a podium finish.
Meanwhile, in the men’s 125kg category, wrestler Rajat Ruhal secured a bronze medal as his opponent from the USA, Mason Parris, withdrew due to injury. Although Ruhal faced a loss in the quarters, he bounced back with a victory over Gwanuk Kim of Korea in the repechage round to claim the medal.
India’s medal tally at the Budapest Ranking Series now stands at five, with notable performances from various wrestlers across different weight categories.
