India’s largest Tricolour was recently unfurled underwater at Swaraj Dweep, setting a new Guinness World Record. Bengaluru’s Sharath R. Ashok, a prominent adventure sports professional, played a key role in this historic feat. The underwater mission, conducted on May 2, involved over 200 skilled scuba divers from various parts of the country.
Sharath R. Ashok, son of Karnataka Assembly’s Leader of the Opposition and senior BJP leader R. Ashoka, has gained recognition for his international achievement. This accomplishment is viewed as an inspiration for the youth in the state. The operation, supported by the Andaman and Nicobar administration and Indian defense forces, entailed unfurling a massive 60×40 meter national flag underwater, overcoming strong currents and high water pressure.
Lieutenant Governor Admiral D.K. Joshi honored the team with the official Guinness World Records certificate in acknowledgment of their remarkable achievement. Sharath R. Ashok, an automobile engineering graduate, boasts over a decade of experience in adventure sports. He holds international certifications as a dive master and scuba instructor, along with expertise in paragliding, paramotoring, motocross, and mountaineering, which prepared him for the challenging underwater task.
Expressing his pride, Sharath emphasized that the Indian Tricolour signifies the strength and unity of 1.4 billion Indians. Describing the underwater flag unfurling as a moment of immense pride, he highlighted how his journey in adventure sports and wildlife conservation inspired his involvement in this significant national endeavor. With more than a decade of experience in leading adventure sports activities across various terrains, Sharath Ashok has conducted training sessions and expeditions in scuba diving, motocross, paragliding, paramotoring, and mountaineering. He is known for his expertise as a dive master and instructor, actively engaging in training and mentoring aspiring divers and instructors, alongside his passion for wildlife protection and conservation efforts.
