India’s maritime sector is experiencing significant reforms led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal. Sonowal announced the upcoming nationwide “Maritime Reform Utsav” to mark 12 years of reforms and growth in the sector. This initiative aims to highlight India’s achievements in various maritime areas, showcasing its emergence as a global maritime powerhouse.
Sonowal chaired a high-level review meeting to discuss a reform-driven roadmap for India’s maritime transformation. The focus was on governance enhancement, ease of doing business, digital integration, grievance redressal, and timely implementation of key maritime initiatives. Under PM Modi’s leadership, the sector has seen significant changes following the principles of ‘Reform, Perform, Transform, and Inform.’
The “Maritime Reform Utsav” is set to celebrate India’s journey towards becoming a modern and globally competitive maritime power. The ministry is also working on developing an integrated digital platform and mobile application to improve stakeholder interface, service delivery, documentation, grievance redressal, and overall maritime services. Sonowal emphasized the need for better coordination among various stakeholders to expedite decision-making and project implementation in the maritime and logistics sectors.
