India’s four-member men’s team is set to compete at the World Squash Championships in Giza, Egypt, starting Friday. Led by Abhay Singh, the team also includes Veer Chotrani, Ramit Tandon, and Velavan Senthilkumar. The championship, running from May 8 to 16, will see top players like Mostafa Asal and Hania El Hammamy in action.
Abhay Singh, India’s top-ranked men’s singles player, will face a tough challenge against compatriot Veer Chotrani in the opening round. Ranked 22nd globally, Abhay is India’s main hope in the tournament. The winner of this match might have to contend with defending champion Mostafa Asal or Germany’s Raphael Kandra in the next round.
Velavan Senthilkumar is up against France’s Victor Crouin, ranked fifth globally, in his opening match. Meanwhile, Ramit Tandon will start his campaign against Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey. India is aiming for its first singles medal at the World Squash Championships, with hopes high for a breakthrough before the sport’s debut at the 2028 Summer Olympics.
