Secretary S. Krishnan of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology highlighted the significant opportunities that artificial intelligence (AI) offers for enhancing productivity and expanding access to crucial sectors like healthcare and education. He also acknowledged concerns regarding AI’s impact on cognitive jobs.
India, according to Krishnan, is well-placed to leverage AI for inclusive growth, emphasizing the government’s commitment to building an AI ecosystem that benefits all citizens, especially those on the fringes of the digital economy. The ‘Governance Summit 2026: Inclusive AI for Viksit Bharat’ discussed AI’s role in various areas, including digital commerce, healthcare, and job creation.
The event featured panel discussions on topics such as online safety, healthcare affordability, and job opportunities in the digital space. It also delved into the practical implementation of AI for public service delivery, aiming to reach even the most remote areas through state and local governments.
Prof. Ashwini Chhatre from the Bharti Institute of Public Policy stressed the importance of translating AI aspirations into actionable governance frameworks. He emphasized the long-term national mission of AI, focusing on future job prospects and ensuring equitable access to AI opportunities through appropriate measures.
