India’s Operation Sindoor, initiated following a brutal terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22 last year, where 26 innocent tourists were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists based on their religion, led to significant developments in the conflict. A recent report highlighted that the operation resulted in India gaining air superiority over key sectors of Pakistani airspace and conducting precise strikes across operational areas.
John Spencer, the Executive Director at the US-based Urban Warfare Institute, pointed out that even a year after the commencement of Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, there were ongoing discussions about the initial outcomes and the narrative surrounding the clashes between India and Pakistan. The report emphasized that the Pakistan Air Force faced challenges as the conflict progressed, with India’s strategic moves altering the course of the engagement.
The analysis, based on a report released by the Centre d’Histoire et de Prospective Militaires in Switzerland, provided a detailed account of the conflict, debunking early claims and narratives that favored Pakistan’s achievements. It revealed that India’s sustained efforts, including targeted strikes and air superiority tactics, significantly weakened Pakistan’s position and forced a reevaluation of the situation.
Spencer highlighted that Operation Sindoor, a response to the Pahalgam attacks, not only met its objectives but also surpassed expectations, garnering external validation for India’s strategic decisions. The study underscored the effectiveness of India’s military campaign and the impact it had on reshaping the conflict dynamics, ultimately leading to a ceasefire due to Pakistan’s inability to sustain the fight under unfavorable conditions.
