India’s cricket captain, Shubman Gill, has been nominated for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for June. Gill is up against Bangladesh’s Mossadek Hossain and New Zealand’s Nathan Smith for the prestigious monthly honor. Gill’s exceptional performance during India’s matches against Afghanistan has earned him this recognition.
Gill showcased remarkable form during the home series against Afghanistan, excelling in both Test and ODI formats. In the one-off Test in New Chandigarh, he scored a brilliant 126, his 11th Test century, embellished with 15 boundaries and a six. Continuing his stellar run, Gill amassed an impressive 238 runs in just two innings during the subsequent ODI series.
Despite facing severe cramps, Gill played a crucial role in India’s victory, securing both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series titles as India completed a 3-0 sweep. Mossadek Hossain of Bangladesh also made a remarkable comeback to international cricket, playing a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s historic ODI series win over Australia. New Zealand’s Nathan Smith was recognized for his outstanding performance in the Test series against England, where he emerged as the leading wicket-taker.
