India’s U-23 men’s boxers excelled at the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships in Jakarta, with six boxers advancing to the semifinals, guaranteeing medals. Asian champion Vishvanath (50kg) and Ganga (55kg) secured convincing wins in their quarterfinal bouts.
In the 65kg category, Vanshaj triumphed over Kazakhstan’s Assylkhan Kosherbay, while Hitesh (70kg) impressed by stopping Indonesia’s Radiyansyah in the first round. Aryan Malik (80kg) and Rocky Chaudhary (85kg) fought valiantly but faced defeat, and Hemant Sangwan (90kg) lost to Uzbekistan’s Samir Sobirov.
The Indian team has secured six medals in the U-23 men’s competition, with semifinalists including Vishvanath, Ganga, Vanshaj, Hitesh, Neeraj, and Ishan Kataria. India’s strong performance across weight divisions highlights its depth and consistency in men’s boxing.
The Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships in Jakarta, ongoing from July 5 to July 16, serve as a significant platform for India’s emerging boxing talent to showcase their skills on the continental stage. India’s U-19 women’s boxers also displayed impressive performances, continuing the country’s success at the championships.
