Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will merge with Indonesia’s payment system, facilitating cross-border retail transactions for tourists and businesses through their domestic payment apps. This integration aims to enhance both business operations and travel convenience. Additionally, India and Indonesia are enhancing collaboration in technology and strategic industries to bolster supply chain resilience and strengthen partnerships in critical sectors like minerals and steel.
The Prime Minister highlighted the signing of multiple agreements, including a framework on maritime safety and security cooperation between the two nations. Furthermore, India’s space agency, ISRO, will support Indonesia in peaceful outer space exploration and capacity building in the space sector. Notably, a conservation project for the Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta, symbolizing shared cultural heritage, will be launched by the Indonesian President.
PM Modi announced the upcoming celebration of the ‘Tagore-Dewantara Year of Cultural and Educational Diplomacy’ to mark the centenary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s historic visit to Indonesia. He expressed confidence in the beginning of a prosperous era in India-Indonesia relations, emphasizing the positive global impact of this partnership. Moreover, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) will establish a campus in Indonesia at the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Malang, benefiting the youth of the ASEAN region and promoting internationalization of India’s higher education sector.
