India’s Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign faced criticism from former India opener Aakash Chopra following their loss to Australia. Chopra highlighted the team’s tactical decisions and emphasized the need for long-term planning to compete effectively in future ICC events. He questioned the timing of Jemimah Rodrigues’ retirement and stressed the importance of improving fitness levels to challenge top teams globally.

Chopra expressed concerns about India’s batting strategy during the match, suggesting that tactical changes should have been made earlier to maintain momentum. He emphasized the significance of maximizing every delivery and adapting to unconventional approaches to enhance performance on the field. Chopra also underscored the necessity of utilizing resources effectively, especially in the crucial middle and finishing overs.

In addition to tactical adjustments, Chopra emphasized the critical role of fitness in women’s cricket, particularly in the T20 format. He highlighted the importance of physical sharpness alongside technical skills to compete against strong teams like Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. According to Chopra, fitness plays a vital role in T20 cricket due to its dynamic nature, influencing fielding, agility, and power-hitting abilities.

Despite the disappointment of India’s early exit from the tournament, Chopra remained optimistic about the team’s potential. He urged the squad to focus on necessary improvements, including enhanced fitness levels, to achieve success in future competitions. Chopra emphasized the importance of embracing a proactive approach towards fitness and skill development to excel in the upcoming World Cup cycle.
