The Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court is set to announce its decision on the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque conflict on May 15. This judgment comes after a prolonged legal battle and a comprehensive scientific examination conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which garnered national attention.
The dispute, considered a highly sensitive religious and architectural issue in central India, involves conflicting historical assertions and intricate legal complexities. For years, the location in Dhar has been a focal point of disagreement between two communities.
The Hindu faction argues that the edifice is an 11th-century temple dedicated to Goddess Vagdevi and constructed by scholar-king Raja Bhoj. Conversely, the Muslim side contends that the site has served as the Kamal Maula Mosque for generations.
Before the recent legal proceedings, the ASI had an arrangement allowing Hindus to pray at the site on Tuesdays and Muslims on Fridays. However, the quest for a permanent resolution prompted the current legal process and an extensive survey to ascertain the original nature of the structure.
Following nearly 25 days of intensive hearings, during which the court scrutinized the ASI survey report, historical documents, and archaeological discoveries, the impending verdict is anticipated. Legal representatives from both factions presented detailed arguments on architectural elements, inscriptions, and historical references linked to the site.
The court, having reserved its decision post the arguments, is now poised to deliver a momentous ruling for the region. In preparation for the outcome, the Madhya Pradesh administration is on high alert, ensuring security and order not only in Dhar city but statewide.
Stringent security measures have been implemented around the Bhojshala complex, with heightened surveillance in sensitive areas. Local authorities have engaged with community leaders from both sides, urging for peace and communal unity regardless of the court’s decision.
As the region awaits Friday’s announcement, all eyes are on the High Court for a verdict that could have enduring implications on the social and legal fabric of the area.
