Meta-owned Instagram experienced a short outage, primarily impacting users in the United States. Reports from Downdetector indicated a peak in complaints around 4:10 a.m. EST, with over 180 users highlighting issues accessing the popular social media platform. Users faced difficulties logging in or loading content during the disruption.
Many individuals turned to alternative social media platforms to share screenshots of the encountered problem. These images displayed a blank screen with a circular refresh icon, lacking any specific error message. Data from Downdetector revealed that 45% of affected users cited app-related problems, while 41% encountered login issues. An additional 14% reported difficulties with the feed or timeline not loading correctly.
The impact of the outage was minimal in India, with only about 10 users reporting issues accessing Instagram. This suggests that the problem was largely confined to specific regions. Meta has not released an official statement regarding the cause or duration of the disruption. Social media platforms were inundated with users expressing their reactions, with comments ranging from queries about Instagram’s status to appreciating certain aesthetics.
This incident is not the first time a Meta-owned platform has faced technical challenges. WhatsApp, another Meta platform, previously experienced global outages, including in India. In a notable September occurrence, numerous users encountered difficulties sending messages or updating statuses, leading to widespread complaints on social media.
