The police in Kolkata have apprehended the kingpin of an inter-state drug trafficking network, identified as Enarul Sheikh. Enarul was captured during a raid in the Entally police station area, following a tip-off received by the Malda district police. He is a key figure in a large drug trafficking operation that sources raw materials from Northeastern states, manufactures brown sugar, and distributes it nationwide.
Enarul, a resident of Malda, has reportedly amassed significant wealth through his illicit activities. He had been evading authorities for some time before being caught. Enarul’s uncle, Bhablu alias Shawkat Sheikh, was also arrested in connection with the case. The duo was involved in transporting drug manufacturing materials to West Bengal from states like Manipur and Assam.
Authorities disclosed that Enarul trained individuals in Kaliachak, Malda, in the production of brown sugar, which was later trafficked to different states through various agents. His criminal network operated in states such as Bihar and Jharkhand, and was linked to gang conflicts in the Kaliachak region. Recently, proceeds from drug trafficking have been invested in the construction sector.
Enarul and his accomplice will face legal proceedings in the Malda district court, with the police requesting a 10-day custody period for further investigation. The arrest of Enarul marks a significant achievement in the state’s anti-drug efforts, with ongoing probes into possible connections to Bangladesh and influential figures.
