A dispute within the Malayalam film actors’ association AMMA has turned into a public controversy, with members openly criticizing the leadership for transparency in finances and operations. Following the release of the Hema Committee report, a new leadership, including women like Swetha Menon and Kukku Paramesweran, took charge. However, tensions have resurfaced despite a period of calm under the new leadership.
Mala Parvathy has called for the public disclosure of AMMA’s financial records, emphasizing the need for transparency in the organization’s financial dealings. She highlighted that despite assigning treasurer Unni Sivapal to clarify the accounts, satisfactory explanations were not provided to the members.
The controversy escalated when veteran actor Mallika Sukumaran demanded the dissolution of the executive committee and fresh elections within AMMA. She expressed deep embarrassment over the situation within the organization, urging senior actors like Mammootty and Mohanlal to intervene and restore normalcy. Mallika also criticized the lack of transparency in AMMA’s operations and accused the General Secretary of spreading defamatory remarks.
Mallika Sukumaran further raised concerns about the secretive nature of AMMA’s functioning, questioning the need for numerous CCTV cameras in the office. She dismissed claims of ignorance by actor Swetha Menon regarding the controversy and alleged external influence on actor Ansiba Hassan. Mallika revealed that actor Tiny Tom had previously recommended including Ansiba and Sarayu Mohan in the committee.
The public dispute has brought to light internal divisions within AMMA, prompting calls for the leadership to address both financial and administrative issues. Despite appeals for intervention from senior figures like Mammootty and Mohanlal, their involvement remains uncertain, leaving the future of the organization in question.
