Despite securing a significant win in the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation elections, internal discord within the Chandrapur district unit of the Congress party has escalated to a critical point. A public dispute has emerged between Congress Legislative Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar and party MP Pratibha Dhanorkar over the selection of local leadership and organizational control. The State Congress President has intervened in response to the conflict.
Allegations have been made by Dhanorkar against Wadettiwar, accusing him of forcefully taking newly elected corporators. The disagreement intensified during discussions on appointing key office-bearers in the district. Both Wadettiwar and Dhanorkar are advocating for their loyalists to secure influential positions in the Chandrapur civic body and the district party unit.
The rift became apparent as supporters of both factions began operating independently, bypassing the traditional party hierarchy. This division became more pronounced after Congress emerged as the largest party with 27 seats in the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation, setting the stage for challenging coalition talks. The disagreement primarily revolves around the selection of the District President and other executive roles as both leaders aim to strengthen their influence ahead of upcoming elections.
