The need to acknowledge Khalistani extremism as a radical fringe exploiting grievances and posing security threats has been emphasized. A report highlighted a video from Canada’s Brampton city depicting what was termed as a disturbing display of extremism during events marking the anniversary of Operation Blue Star.
The report detailed a massive moving tableau organized by pro-Khalistan elements openly glorifying the assassination of India’s former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It also targeted Lt Gen. Kuldip Singh Brar, who led Operation Blue Star, with banners screaming “Revenge” for the military action against militants in the Golden Temple.
Brampton city has increasingly become a hub for such processions, featuring Khalistani flags, violence glorification, and separatist ideology. Despite Canada designating certain groups as threats, activities linked to banned organizations like SFJ persist, straining India-Canada relations and raising concerns for the wider Indo-Canadian community.
The report warned that such acts not only strain bilateral relations but also pose concerns for the Indo-Canadian community, with incidents of targeting reported at Hindu temples. It emphasized the need for concrete measures against extremism to uphold shared democratic values between India and Canada.
