International tennis is making a comeback to Bengaluru, led by Sumit Nagal, India’s top singles player, at the 10th Bengaluru Open. This tournament is renowned as one of the most prestigious ATP Challenger events globally and is scheduled to kick off at the historic SM Krishna Tennis Stadium on Monday.
Sumit Nagal, recognized as one of India’s top singles players, brings a wealth of experience to this year’s edition. His impressive track record includes representing India at the Olympics, being a consistent member of the Davis Cup team for over a decade, and achieving a career-high ATP singles ranking within the Top 100. Nagal has clinched numerous ATP Challenger titles and secured several victories on the ATP Tour, notably becoming the first Indian singles player in more than twenty years to win a main draw match at the Australian Open.
Ahead of the Bengaluru Open, Nagal focused on enhancing his fitness and establishing a steady rhythm. Stressing the importance of preparation, he emphasized the significance of early arrival, acclimatization to the conditions, and spending ample time on the court, particularly at the beginning of the year.
Reflecting on his journey, Nagal highlighted Bengaluru’s pivotal role in his international career development. He expressed deep sentiments towards the city, stating, “This city holds great significance for me. It is where my professional journey commenced. I received training in Bengaluru early on, and many of my major milestones have been achieved on these very courts.”

This ATP Challenger Tour event boasts a total prize purse of USD 225,000 and offers 125 ATP ranking points to the singles champion, underscoring its increasing prominence on the global tennis stage.
