The investigation into the alleged attempt to poach Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) legislators gained momentum as two more individuals were arrested, bringing the total number of accused to 14. Karunanidhi and Saravanan were apprehended after being questioned for several hours by the police. They were summoned for interrogation in connection with the suspected conspiracy to influence TVK lawmakers to switch their political allegiance.
During the operation, authorities seized Rs 2.80 crore in cash from the arrested individuals. Investigators are now scrutinizing the source of the money and its intended use in the alleged bid to entice elected representatives. Further inquiries are ongoing to identify any additional individuals who might have been involved in the purported conspiracy.
The case originated from claims of efforts to poach TVK MLAs by offering significant sums of money and other incentives. The controversy arose following a complaint by TVK MLA N. Elayaraja, who alleged an offer of Rs 35 crore in exchange for political support. This complaint triggered a substantial police inquiry, resulting in a series of arrests over recent weeks.
Authorities revealed that both Karunanidhi and Saravanan have ties to the DMK party. Their alleged roles in coordinating meetings, managing cash transactions, and establishing contacts with individuals related to the case are under investigation. The probe, which has uncovered connections to the DMK, continues to analyze financial records, digital evidence, and statements gathered during the investigation.
