The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Malayalam actor Jayaram for questioning regarding his association with the prime accused in the Sabarimala gold theft case. Jayaram is directed to appear before the ED office in Kochi on February 17. Officials are investigating whether any financial benefits were derived from gold meant for Sabarimala.
Jayaram’s statement is seen as potentially providing important leads on the financial aspects of the alleged gold theft. The ED is particularly interested in clarifying Jayaram’s relationship and financial transactions with the prime accused. Visuals had previously shown gatekeeper idols from the Sannidhanam being taken to Jayaram’s residence for rituals.
The Kerala High Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) had earlier questioned Jayaram and cleared him of any involvement, listing him as a witness. However, the ED, conducting an independent probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, is now involved. Jayaram is expected to reiterate that the rituals conducted at his home were for spiritual purposes only.
Investigators have disclosed that the prime accused allegedly took sacred objects from Sabarimala during its construction phase for conducting rituals elsewhere. The ED has expanded its probe, issuing summons to additional individuals beyond those named by the SIT. More developments and potential arrests are anticipated in the ongoing investigation.
