After the Tipra Motha Party, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has declared plans to escalate its protest for implementing the Roman script in the tribal Kokborok language. The IPFT, allied with the ruling BJP in Tripura, emphasizes that the choice of script should be determined by the indigenous people.
Amidst growing differences between the TMP and BJP regarding the script for Kokborok, IPFT General Secretary Swapan Debbarma asserts that Chief Minister Manik Saha should refrain from making unnecessary statements on the matter. Debbarma insists that the decision on the script should be made by those who use the language daily.
The Chief Minister has expressed opposition to the Roman script for Kokborok, advocating for an indigenous script instead. Kokborok, spoken by nine tribal communities in Tripura, is a significant language in the state. The debate over the script has sparked discussions on preserving tribal traditions and culture.
