Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal dismissed rumors about potential changes to the 2026 playoffs due to fuel issues and geopolitical tensions. Dhumal stated that the BCCI has not received any official directives from the Indian government regarding altering the tournament schedule. He assured that the IPL will proceed as planned, following government guidelines.

Reports had surfaced suggesting discussions on adjusting the playoff schedule, including options like reducing travel and holding matches without spectators. The Chamber of Trade & Industry chairman had written to the Sports Minister, proposing measures to cut fuel consumption during the tournament. However, Dhumal confirmed that there are no current plans within the BCCI to modify the playoff schedule or conduct matches behind closed doors.

The IPL 2026 playoffs are set to kick off on May 26, 2026, culminating in the grand finale on May 31, 2026. Qualifier 1 will take place at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, followed by the Eliminator match at the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. Qualifier 2 will be held in New Chandigarh to determine the second finalist, leading to the Grand Final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
