Iran and its allies have attacked 16 US military sites in eight Middle Eastern countries during the US-Israeli conflict with Iran since February 28. The damage has left some of these locations inoperable, as reported by a CNN investigation.
The majority of US military sites in the region have been affected by the attacks, according to information from a congressional aide who is knowledgeable about the damage assessments. The damaged facilities include crucial assets like US advanced radar systems, communications systems, and aircraft deployed in the Middle East.
Satellite images have revealed that Tehran targeted expensive and hard-to-replace assets belonging to the US in the region. These include radar systems, which are considered the most costly and limited resources in the area. The attacks were strategically aimed at hitting the most cost-effective targets, as per the congressional aide.
Acting Pentagon Comptroller Jules Hurst III informed lawmakers that the conflict with Iran has already incurred a cost of 25 billion USD for US taxpayers. The repairs for the US Navy Fifth Fleet headquarters alone could amount to $200 million, based on a Pentagon assessment shared by a congressional official to The New York Times.
An external assessment by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) has revealed that Iranian forces also targeted various military installations, including Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, a runway at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, and a munitions storage facility at a military base in northern Iraq, according to NBC.
