Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, announced that negotiations between Iran and the United States for a final agreement will commence on Friday. This follows the official signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end the war. Araghchi revealed this information during a meeting with foreign diplomats in Tehran, where he discussed the finalized peace MoU between Iran and the US.
The upcoming negotiations are divided into two stages due to challenges in reaching an agreement caused by US and Israeli aggression against Iran. The first stage focuses on finalizing the MoU concerning the war’s conclusion, the Strait of Hormuz, US anti-Iran naval blockade, Iranian frozen assets, and war damages reconstruction. The subsequent stage involves a 60-day negotiation period to address nuclear issues and lift sanctions on Iran.
Araghchi highlighted that the initial stage will include declaring the end of the war as a significant development. He emphasized that the war’s conclusion in Lebanon is a crucial aspect of the peace MoU between Iran and the US. Araghchi warned that any Israeli military attack on Lebanon or continued occupation of Lebanese territories would violate the peace agreement.
The MoU on ending the war was finalized by the United States, Pakistan, and Iran after weeks of negotiations. The official signing is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on Friday. The conflict escalated on February 28 when Israel and the US conducted joint attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities, leading to retaliatory strikes by Iran on Israel and US bases in the region.
