Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei mentioned that Iran and the United States are in the process of finalizing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to bring an end to the ongoing war. Baghaei emphasized the current focus on halting the imposed war, with discussions revolving around a 14-clause MoU. The aim is to reach a final agreement within a timeframe of 30 to 60 days.
Baghaei highlighted that the MoU’s key points include ending the war on all fronts, such as in Lebanon, and addressing issues like the cessation of US maritime attacks and the release of Iranian frozen assets. He clarified that the 30- to 60-day period mentioned in the MoU will commence only after formal agreement on the document. The nuclear matter is not a primary focus in the ongoing peace talks.
Pakistan is recognized as the principal mediator in these discussions, playing a crucial role in facilitating communication between Iran and the United States. A ceasefire was achieved on April 8 following 40 days of conflict initiated by US and Israeli attacks on Iran. Subsequent peace talks held in Islamabad in April did not lead to an agreement. Both sides have exchanged proposed plans through Pakistani mediation to outline conditions for resolving the conflict.
