Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran is prepared for diplomatic engagement if Washington alters its approach. He highlighted the importance of shifting from the current provocative actions by the US towards a more diplomatic stance. Pezeshkian, in a discussion with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, attributed Gulf insecurity to US and Israeli actions, urging an end to “American piracy” against Iranian ships.
Both leaders deliberated on facilitating the passage of a Japanese vessel with Japanese sailors through the Strait of Hormuz. Takaichi expressed hope for renewed US-Iran consultations leading to a final agreement. She emphasized the significance of ensuring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz for vessels of all nations without delay.
During the call, President Pezeshkian elucidated Iran’s perspectives and future plans to Takaichi. The Japanese PM, along with Foreign Minister Motegi, engaged in discussions with Pezeshkian and the Iranian embassy to address the situation of Japanese vessels in the Persian Gulf. Pezeshkian, on the occasion of Persian Gulf Nation Day, underscored the illegitimacy of any attempts to impose blockades or maritime restrictions in the region.
