Iran has replied to the United States’ nine-point proposal, emphasizing the need for guarantees of non-aggression and the withdrawal of US military forces from its surrounding areas. The US had suggested a two-month ceasefire, but Iran prefers a 30-day resolution focusing on “ending the war” rather than extending the ceasefire. Iran’s response includes 14 points, such as lifting the naval blockade, releasing frozen assets, compensations, sanctions removal, and cessation of wars, including in Lebanon.
Iran’s proposal also introduces a new plan for the Strait of Hormuz, along with demands for non-aggression assurances and the removal of US troops from Iran’s vicinity. The country is awaiting an official response from the US regarding these proposals. Additionally, Iran’s Deputy Speaker of Parliament mentioned finalizing a 12-point bill to alter the management of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing restrictions on certain ships and the necessity of war reparations for passage permits.
The bill aims to prevent ships from the “Zionist” regime from passing through the Strait of Hormuz and requires warring nations to pay for war damages to gain passage permits. Iran intends to regulate vessel traffic through the strait by requiring licenses and permissions. The new management of the strait is deemed crucial, akin to the nationalization of Iran’s oil industry, marking a significant step in asserting sovereignty over a vital global waterway.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran highlighted the implications of the situation, stating that US President Trump faces a choice between a challenging military operation or a compromise with Iran. The IRGC emphasized the narrowing scope for US decision-making in this regard.
