Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, engaged in separate phone discussions with his counterparts from Oman, Turkey, and Pakistan’s army chief following renewed US strikes on Iran. Araghchi conversed with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, focusing on recent events in the Strait of Hormuz and other mutual concerns, as per the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Emphasizing the need for diplomacy and continued communication, they aimed to address regional matters and prevent further escalation.
During the call with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, Araghchi strongly criticized the recent US attacks on Iran, labeling them as clear breaches of the UN Charter and the Iran-US peace memorandum of understanding. Iran’s commitment to safeguarding its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security was underscored by Araghchi, cautioning against any US military “adventurism.” The United States confirmed conducting strikes on various targets within Iran in response to Iran’s recent actions against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, with the objective of reducing Iran’s capability to threaten shipping in the vital waterway.
Iran reported that the US strikes resulted in 14 fatalities, 78 injuries, and damage to a bridge and railway. In retaliation, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps and army launched missile and drone attacks on US military installations in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan. This escalation unfolded as Iran and the US are in a 60-day negotiation period under the memorandum of understanding to achieve a final agreement.
