The Navy of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it targeted a US Navy frigate with two missiles as it tried to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The US frigate, departing from Iran’s Jask port to cross the strait, was reportedly struck for violating traffic and shipping security regulations. Following the Iranian naval forces’ warning, the frigate was hit and compelled to retreat from the area.
A senior US official, however, refuted the claim that an American ship was hit by Iranian missiles, as per Axios. Iran has consistently emphasized that passage through the Strait of Hormuz requires official authorization, with any disregard resulting in a forceful response from the Iranian armed forces. President Donald Trump assured safe guidance for ships stuck in the strait on Monday.
In response, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters cautioned against any foreign military, particularly the US army, approaching or entering the Strait of Hormuz, threatening to retaliate if such actions occur. Iran’s control over the strait tightened on February 28, prohibiting the passage of vessels linked to Israel and the US after joint strikes on Iranian soil. The US initiated an anti-Iran blockade in the strait following unsuccessful negotiations with Tehran in April.
