Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it launched attacks on US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain as retaliation for US actions on Qeshm Island and Sirik County in southern Iran. The IRGC, through its official news outlet Sepah News, identified the targeted bases as the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain.
The IRGC stated that four oil tankers, guided by the US army, attempted to leave the Strait of Hormuz without coordination, leading to one tanker being targeted after disregarding warnings. Subsequently, US drones attacked communication towers on Qeshm Island and in Sirik County. In response, the IRGC’s aerospace division fired ballistic missiles at the Ali Al Salem Air Base and other key facilities in the US Fifth Fleet headquarters.
Following the incidents, the US Central Command confirmed striking some of Iran’s radar sites, while the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces reported intercepting missile and drone attacks. The Kuwaiti authorities emphasized the importance of following safety instructions amid the escalating tensions in the region.
The recent events unfolded after Kuwait accused Iran of launching ballistic missiles and drones towards the Gulf state, resulting in casualties and damages to infrastructure. The situation in the region has been tense, with Iran imposing restrictions on vessel passage through the strait and the US implementing a naval blockade, impacting maritime activities involving Iranian ports.
