The Ireland cricket team has secured a place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be held in June this year, following an impressive performance in the Super Six stage of the global qualifiers in Nepal. Ireland clinched three victories out of five matches in the stage, earning the third spot after Bangladesh and the Netherlands. This will mark Ireland’s return to the T20 World Cup since 2023.
In a crucial match at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Ireland Women posted a total of 121 for 8 in their 20 overs, with notable contributions from Amy Hunter, Gaby Lewis, and Orla Prendergast. Amy Hunter’s quick 24 off 15 balls provided a solid start, while Gaby Lewis and Orla Prendergast added valuable runs to the scoreboard.
Facing a target of 122, Thailand Women struggled to build momentum and were eventually bowled out for just 59 runs in 16.1 overs. Ireland’s bowlers delivered a clinical performance, with Arlene Kelly leading the attack with an impressive 4-wicket haul for just 7 runs. Lara McBride and Aimee Maguire also made significant contributions with the ball, restricting Thailand’s batting lineup.
