Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan commended Mohammed Shami for his exceptional performance, taking 8 wickets while representing Bengal against Jammu and Kashmir in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26 semi-final at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground.
Shami, known for his consistent displays in domestic cricket, showcased his prowess by claiming crucial wickets for Bengal. He started strong by dismissing both openers using his swing and pace, eventually achieving a five-wicket haul by dismissing Kanhaiya Wadhwan in the 59th over.
In a remarkable feat, Shami secured his eight-wicket haul by dismissing Jammu and Kashmir’s Aaqib Nabi in the 77th over, marking his career-best figures of 8/90.
Pathan highlighted Shami’s absence from India’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad, emphasizing the bowler’s dedication to excelling in the Ranji Trophy. He lauded Shami’s performance, noting his pivotal role in Bengal’s success.
Despite his stellar performances, Shami has not been part of the Indian squad for the past year. His recent achievements include a five-wicket haul against Services, contributing significantly to Bengal’s success in the Ranji Trophy.
Shami’s outstanding contribution helped Bengal secure a lead of 26 runs in the first innings. However, Bengal faltered in the second innings, being bowled out for just 99 runs, setting a target of 126 runs for Jammu and Kashmir, as they strive to reach their first-ever Ranji Trophy final.
