Islamic scholars expressed approval of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. The apex court upheld the Election Commission of India’s authority to conduct the SIR, stating that it was a constitutional and statutory prerogative aimed at ensuring fair elections. Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, President of All India Muslim Jamaat, praised the impartiality of recent Assembly elections in various states following the SIR.
Welcoming the Supreme Court’s ruling on the SIR, Maulana Bareilvi highlighted the necessity of updating electoral rolls to eliminate discrepancies caused by deceased or relocated voters. He affirmed that the Election Commission’s actions were beyond reproach and warranted no objections from any party. Maulana Mirza Mohammad Yasoob Abbas, General Secretary of All India Shia Personal Law Board, echoed support for the court’s decision, emphasizing the futility of questioning its validity.
Maulana Abbas emphasized that challenging the Supreme Court’s judgment implied a lack of faith in the country’s judicial system. The bench, comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, ruled that the SIR process adhered to legal provisions and empowered the Election Commission to undertake revisions under constitutional and statutory frameworks. The court’s validation of the SIR exercise underlined its compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
