The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported detecting surface-to-air missile launches by Hezbollah aimed at Israeli Air Force aircraft. The incident, which occurred near the Lebanese border, did not result in any injuries or damage to the aircraft. The launch triggered air raid sirens in Kiryat Shmona and eight nearby villages, prompting residents to seek shelter.
The missile launches took place despite a recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon following talks in Washington. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun criticized Iran for using Lebanon as a bargaining tool in negotiations with the United States. Aoun also expressed discontent with Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem, emphasizing the Lebanese people’s desire for peace after enduring prolonged conflict.
In an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Aoun highlighted the need for negotiations to resolve the conflict between Lebanon and Israel. He emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of Hezbollah’s armed presence within Lebanon, including the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory. Aoun stressed that the majority of Lebanese citizens, across different sects and regions, are fatigued by years of conflict and aspire for lasting peace.
