The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the elimination of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Commander of the Bekaa region in Lebanon. Wael Mahmoud Abdel Halim, the targeted terrorist, was reportedly leading the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists in collaboration with Hezbollah in Lebanon. IDF stated that Abdel Halim was actively involved in planning terror activities against IDF forces.
In a separate incident, IDF claimed the elimination of Bahaa Baroud, a commander in the Hamas operations headquarters. Baroud was identified as a key figure in orchestrating various terror plots by Hamas against IDF forces and Israeli citizens. The IDF emphasized that Baroud posed an immediate threat and was taken out in a precise aerial strike.
Lebanon President Joseph Aoun expressed determination to halt the conflict affecting Lebanon and its people. Aoun outlined Lebanon’s negotiation framework, emphasizing the need for Israeli withdrawal, ceasefire, army deployment along borders, return of displaced individuals, and economic support. Aoun’s statement aimed to clarify the objectives amid ongoing discussions.
The US State Department confirmed a 45-day extension of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, which came into effect a month ago. This extension reflects the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region amidst heightened tensions and security concerns.
